This cuff link was used to close the cuff of a man's shirt
at the wrist. It is copper alloy with a glass inset. The
back of the inset has been carved with a floral design,
a technique known as intaglio.
It is one of an abundance of artifacts, some military and
many expensive, even frivolous, found by archaeologists
at the Acker site in Birchtown. It, and other clothing-related
artifacts found at the site, reflect a person who had not
only a sense of style and fashion but the means to show
it. The items suggest that the house may have belonged to
Stephen and Margaret Blucke. She had some money and he had
status in the military.
