Treaty of Paris, 1763

Under the Treaty of Paris of 1763 France surrendered claims to all of North America east of the Mississippi, including Nova Scotia, to Britain.

Article IV states:

"His Most Christian Majesty (of France) renounces all pretensions which he has heretofore formed or might have formed to Nova Scotia or Acadia in all its parts, and guaranties the whole of it, and with all its dependencies, to the King of Great Britain"

Under this agreement, Nova Scotia became a British colony.
