The image on the left is the entire Goulden Map.  The area extends from Birchtown, down toward Gunning Cove.  The area of the Black Loyalist landgrants is at the top, in Birchtown, the rest of the landgrants were for White Loyalists.  The image below is the geometrically corrected version of the Goulden Map.   The geometric correction process was carried out several times, each time learning something new about the requirements for geo-correcting historic maps.  This last iteration used a clipped portion of the image of the entire map, to minimize the distortion required of the algorithm to make the historic map geometrically correct and fit the modern base data.  This version allows us to overlay the vector and archaeological site location data, which has allowed us to do things like relate AkDi-26 with the lot accorded to Joseph and Hannah Blair (see bottom image).     return to Geomatics page
