![]() Stone-lined well at AkDi-25 |
| This site was identified during a mapping effort at the adjacent AkDi-5, when the crew
noticed the stone lined well. This site also includes a stone foundation measuring 12 by 5.5 metres with a central chimney/hearth feature.
Archaeological testing indicates a date range in the last half of the nineteenth century. Machine cut nails, flat and bottle glass and
ceramics, including Maritime-ware, yelloware and blue-transfer print, were found. In particular, it was the recovery of a Canadian
one cent coin from 1891 that allowed a date range to be assigned to this site. Given that the structure appears to have been rather large,
and was occupied so late in the nineteenth century, an occupants name can likely be identified through historical research. It is possible
that the occupants had moved from Akdi-5 to AkDi-25 to be closer to the Old Post Road.
