Pearlware Flatware

Pearlware saucers Pearlware is the second largest ceramic type in the Central Trust collection totaling 2,061 sherds. The ware can be identified by its bluish tint due to the presence of cobalt in the glaze. The blue tint is more visible and deeper in colour in crevices on objects where the glaze has pooled thicker.

Many different pearlware vessel forms are present in the collection including flatware such as plates and saucers. The majority of flatware objects have either edged, hand painted, or transfer-printed decoration. The wares shown on the right date to the period circa 1780-1820.
