View
of Halifax c1759
| This view shows Halifax (left) and Dartmouth (right) from George's Island, as they looked about
1759. The town was busy with the military activity of the Seven Years' War. It would again be
busy in the 1770s, when it became the northern base for the war against the revolutionaries in
the Thirteen Colonies. This painting by Dominique Serres (c1763) was based on a drawing
made by Richard Short in 1759.
