In
1998, a small crew carried out the first archaeological survey
in the Brownspriggs Grant area of Antigonish and Guysborough
counties. They identified a number of Black Loyalist descendant
sites, and found this blacking bottle made of English brown
stoneware on site BjCj-27. Liquid blacking was used to treat
boots, harnesses, and other leather goods.
