Sickle
Among the things that Thomas Richardson owned when he died in 1829 was a sickle. The sickle, or reaping hook, is held in one hand to cut down an amount of a crop that could be held in the other. Its curved steel blade is usually about 45 centimeters long, edged with tiny teeth.
What grain crops did Thomas Richardson grow and harvest with this sickle? He may have grown barley, oats, rye, corn, and less likely, wheat.
