For the majority of us, Christmas is a time for celebrating with family, friends, for making merry and enjoying fellowship. For sailors, it can unfortunately be an unbearably bleak time of the year, removed from the ones they love, with only a handful of shipmates to pass the days with. This year the Maritime Museum is pleased to be partnering with Halifax Mission to Seafarers to spread some Christmas Spirit to those mariners who will be spending their Holiday Season in Halifax Harbour. Each year, the Mission prepares a number of shoeboxes as gifts for merchant seafarers. A list of shoebox donation items are on the museum website at maritime.museum.gov.ns.ca The Museum will be accepting donations to the program through Thursday, December 22nd.
