Prospect, Nova Scotia has a rich maritime cultural heritage ranging from pre-contact to the present. A study of submerged cultural resources within the Prospect area was conducted between 2001 and the present with the intent of developing an overall inventory of underwater sites within historical context. The long term goal was to apply the methodologies developed and lessons learned during the study to assist in the development of an overall submerged cultural resource management plan for Nova Scotia. This talk, by Jonathan Kyte, provides a retrospective of the work carried out to date, including archaeological surveys of two late eighteenth century vessels, as well as, an archaeological survey of a late nineteenth century vessel. The talk also explores the wrecks connection with the maritime landscape of Prospect and discusses the application of possible methodologies in the provincial context. January 10 - 7:30 pm
