April 13 - April 14, 2012
In honour of the sinking of the ill-fated ship R.M.S. Titanic, Dalhousie University Costume Studies will be presenting a collection of period clothing similar to those worn by passengers aboard Titanic.
After carefully researching the passengers, students have created authentic costumes of several women in various classes on the ocean liner. During the show, a summary of each student's research will accompany the runway modeling of the designed pieces. Complementing the evenings’ event, the Bedford Brass Quintet will play period music which will fill the museum's Small Craft Gallery and set the mood for what is sure to be an unforgettable evening. Guests will have a chance to mingle with the students at the reception following the show, and be able to view the all Titanic exhibits in the museum as part of this special experience.
The runway show on April 13th and 14th will start at 7pm with reception to follow. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at http://titanic2012.eventbrite.ca. Ticket proceeds for Titanic 2012: A Recollection of Style will benefit the Dalhousie Costume Studies Scholarship Fund.
This presentation is part of the Maritime Museum's Flagship Friday arts series which strives to present arts events that focus on our shared maritime heritage. For more information on Flagship Fridays please call Ian Mullan at the Maritime Museum at 424-6447.
