Sleepover with the Dinosaurs!

Spend a night with the dinosaurs! (Set up your bedrolls in the museum gallery!) The Museum offers three different overnight packages for school classes or groups. These are intended for groups travelling more than 168 km (100 miles) to Parrsboro, NS. However, if there are spaces open, closer groups will be considered. Overnight packages are available for September, October, April, May and June.

We are only 100 kms from Truro and 60 kms from Amherst.

Springhill Miner's Museum (45 minutes from FGM) Go underground and experience the life of a miner. At the Museum, look at artifacts from the disasters.$4.00
Joggins Fossil Centre (1 hour from FGM) Explore and admire the fossils on the beach. Tour the museum celebrating this UNESCO heritage site.)$9.00
Heritage Models (on way to Joggins!) Explore the artistry of the world in miniature. Coal mine, town fair,  $3.00

Age of Sail Museum (1 hour return form FGM) Walk into another age when sailing ships made on this shore were the transport trucks of the Bay of Fundy and the world.

Chose your group's workshop(s), and tour location(s)

Workshops
__Make an agate necklace (Choose your own agate) and learn how agate is tumbled                                      
__Make a plaster fossil (less than 25 students) learn about the animals and plants that formed the fossils
__Make a specimen card of local rocks and minerals and learn about local rock and minerals and their uses.




Guided beach tour to:

___Partridge Island's tall basalt cliffs which yield a variety of rocks and minerals on the beach for you to collect including quartz, agate, granite, stilbite and MAYBE amethyst.

___East Bay's dramatically tilted cliffs showing an ancient lake environment . Look for ripple marks, mud cracks and amphibian tracks! (All fossils are the property of the government of N.S.)

___Wasson's Bluff  ( for Grade 4 and up)has the same rocks and minerals as on the Partridge Island Beach and students will on the same shoreline that our dinosaurs walked 200 million years ago. (With a steep hill access and rugged beach, it isn't as accessible as the other sites.)
