Gemstone

A new display putting the spotlight on the gemstones of Nova Scotia was unveiled at the Fundy Geological Museum recently.

The gemstone heritage of Nova Scotia is centuries old and is not insignificant. Indeed, in their first mention, Nova Scotia gems were the stones of royalty. The early French explorer the Sieur DeMonts brought back Bay of Fundy amethyst, had it cut and set by a Paris jeweler, and presented the resulting pieces to King Henry IV as a sample of the riches to be found in the new world.

The exhibit was assembled by Gemcutter Hans Dursling,  and features several Nova Scotia stones and finished gemstones
