Join us at 7:00 pm August 14th at the Fundy Geological Museum for a presentation by Rob Fensome and Graham Williams: Evolution, Fossils and Nova Scotia Rocks
Almost 150 years ago, in November 1859, Charles Darwin introduced the concept of natural selection as a principal mechanism of evolution in his book On the Origin of Species. At the time, no one knew the age of the Earth or of milestones in our planet’s history. And the continents were believed to be fixed in position. Since 1859, we have seen the advent of radiometric dating, plate tectonics and genetic studies using DNA and other molecules. All have been revolutionary developments. In the early years of the new millennium, scientists are piecing together all these lines of evidence to provide a holistic understanding of the history of life and our planet. In this presentation, Rob and Graham will look through the lens of this new world view at the rocks and fossils of Nova Scotia.
