Current Lab Update

Renovating the Lab
New cabinets. Filling cabinets.
  • Lab staff transfer smaller specimens to new cabinets where they are protected from dust and temperature changes resulting from sunlight.
  • As the specimens are put into the cabinets, a list of their identifying catalogue number is made for the outside of each cabinet.  This will make the fossils easier to find later.
Juvenile Hip Block
  • One side of the small section removed from the block is nearly completed.
  • Only one half of the other side is prepared.  Both sides will have to be cleaned before the piece is reattached.
Removed section. Fragment.
Micro-Jack section.
  • The technician switches from a handpick to the Micro-Jack to remove more santdstone matrix from the central section.
  • Enough matrix is removed to expose tiny sections of bone.  From there she uses the handpick to clean the rest of the bone.
  • In order to complete this work, a small section of bone is removed above the opening.  It will be replaced when this section is complete.
Hand preparation. completed section
