Current Lab Update

Rib Bones
Ribs
  • Three prosauropod rib bones are partially uncovered (above, left).
  • As more of the rib is uncovered another joint is discovered.  The fault linein this rib is consistent with the joint at the end of the other rib (above, right).
  • The two ribs are very similar, each with a fault line running  through them (bottom, right).

  • The technician gradually removes more and more of the sandstone matrix to expose the entire surface of this small section.
  • The bones' weakness has made progress very slow, but the time it takes is worth it when you see how clean the surfaces are.

  • Part A (top, right) will be cleared of sandstone in preparation for Part B to be re-attached.
  • The technician will attempt to remove Part B (bottom right) from sandstone, applying a consolidant Vinac to strengthen the bone.
  • Once all the surfaces are prepared, strong glue will be applied to join the counterparts together.
