New! Ship Model Shop
The Ship Model Shop is a new workshop area located on the second floor of the Museum, adjacent to the Parks Canada exhibit “The Age of Sail”. Volunteers from the South Shore Ship Modeller’s Guild will be on hand, throughout the summer, to demonstrate their skills to Museum visitors. The modellers build a variety of vessel styles, including schooners and other traditional craft.
The Ship Model Shop was constructed during the winter and is a spacious, well-appointed work area for our volunteer model builders.
The South Shore Ship Modeller’s Guild has their regular monthly meeting at the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic on the second Saturday of every month, July and August excepted. Telephone 902.634.4794 ext. 233 for information.
The Bank Fishery/Age of Sail (bilingual)
This exhibit is a Parks Canada feature at the Museum. The exhibit covers a 400 year period and traces the development of the Bank Fishery on Canada’s East Coast. The models and displays offer extraordinary detail and are a delight to behold.

Vessel and Vessel-related Gallery
This section is filled with memorable exhibits. The Bluenose exhibit includes the world's largest collection of authentic artifacts from the original schooner Bluenose. Displays also include shipwright's tools, an outfitted dory, vessel models and a poignant exhibit about the August Gales of 1926 and 1927, when Lunenburg lost at least 138 fishermen and a total of six schooners near Sable Island.

The Fishermen's Memorial Room
This special room is dedicated to the memory of those lost at sea from the port of Lunenburg. There is a mural, painted by noted marine artist Joseph Purcell, and a list of the known men and vessels lost on the Atlantic.
