Concerts

Saturday, August 1 - Lą Mór a’ Chlachain/Highland Village Day Concert
Join us for a fun, afternoon of Gaelic arts. Fiddlers, step-dancers, pipers, highland dancers, and more, come together to treat visitors to traditional Nova Scotia Gaelic culture in this outdoor concert overlooking the Bras d’Or Lakes. 2-6 pm. $10 per person, children 12 and under free. No refunds or discounts.

Tuesday, August 11 - Ensemble Polaris - Musique Royale Concert
Experiencing music from our northern musical heritage in a presentation called ‘Not Much is Worse than a Troll’ Marco Cera (guitar), Kirk Elliott (violin, harp, bagpipes, psaltery, accordion, etc.), Margaret Gay (cello), Ben Grossman (hurdy gurdy, jaw harp), Katherine Hill (voice, nyckelharpa), Alison Melville (flutes, recorders, seljefløyte), Colin Savage (clarinet, bass clarinet, recorders), and Debashis Sinha (percussion). Ensemble Polaris, formed in 1997, plays innovative, category-defying versions of tunes from Scandinavia, the Baltic countries, Canada and other northern climes. With influences ranging from Balkan to klezmer and Baroque to the Hot Club of Paris, combined with a dazzling range of instrumental colours (nyckelharpa, hurdy gurdy, Norwegian willow flute!!) Polaris concerts feature haunting ballads, rollicking dance tunes, tender lullabies and laments, and nonsense songs that appeal to music lovers of all stripes and ages! . Children’s Programs

Wednesdays (August 5, 12, 19, 26) - Làithean Sona/Happy Days Chidren’s Living History Program
Take part in this special living-history program for children and get a sense of what life was like for Gaels in those days past. The program features special hands-on activities including chores, crafts, games, language, and song. Costumes are provided. For ages 8-12 only. 10 am to 4 pm. $30 per child. Prepaid reservations required. No refunds or discounts. 13% HST included.

Thursdays (alternate - August 6 & 20) - Na Deugairean/ The Teenagers Living History Program for Youth
Partake in this special living-history program for teens and get a sense of the responsibilities and the lifestyles of young Gaels in days past. The program features special hands-on activities including chores, crafts, language and song. Costumes are provided. For ages 13-17. 10 am to 4 pm. $30 per child. Prepaid reservations required. No refunds or discounts. 13% HST included.

Fridays (August 7, 14, 21 & 28) - Spòrs/Fun Gaelic Games for Kids
Join us for a morning of interactive games that focus on language, song, dance and other aspects of Scottish heritage. Gaelic games such as Tunnag Tunnag Gèadh, “Duck Duck Goose” center on basic Gaelic vocabulary and phrases which are incorporated into fun and engaging games for children. Spòrs is for children aged 5-10. 10 am to 12 pm. Free admission.

Special Tours

Wednesday, August 12 - Cuairt nan Coinnlean/Candlelight Tour
Come join us for an intimate evening featuring a storytelling tour of this living history site and Cape Breton sunset. 7-9 pm. $12 adult, $28 family, $5 students. Prepaid reservations required. No refunds or discounts. 13% HST included.

Community Suppers

Saturday, August 22 - Feasgar an Truisg/Traditional Codfish Supper
Come satisfy your taste buds with a feed of salt cod, potatoes and all the trimmings of a traditional Cape Breton salt cod supper. If you don’t cotton to cod, hot dogs are available upon request. Backstage, 3-6 pm. $15 adults, $8 child plate, $2 hot dog. No refunds or discounts. HST exempt.
