Hector MacNeil, chair of the Highland Village Fundraising and Membership committee says that “generous sponsorship by Celtic Colours and the Inverary Inn Resort in Baddeck has made this fundraiser possible. We are most appreciative of their support.”

MacNeil says that the fundraiser has also received support from local businesses particularly Sobeys stores and the Mayflower Mall. This past Christmas committee members were active selling tickets at Sobeys stores in North Sydney and Sydney River as well as at the Mayflower Mall. Committee member Betty Lord says that “It was a great boost for fundraising and gave us an opportunity to talk to people about the Highland Village at the same time.” Committee members also were set up at Sobeys Aberdeen Mall in New Glasgow the week prior to the draw as well as Sobeys Sydney River again for three days prior to the draw.

The winning ticket was drawn on Monday June 20 at the office of Celtic Colours on Grand Lake Road. We wish to thank Rob Wadden of Grant Thornton for assisting with the draw.

Moneys generated by this fundraiser will help the Highland Village present an accurate, complete, and accessible record of the oral and musical culture of the Gaels of Nova Scotia. Activities in this area will include consolidating, digitizing and expanding upon our present audio and video holdings in order to make items in our collection more accessible and usable for Highland Village staff and for the community at large.
