Tuesday, June 9 - Là Fhéill Calum Cille (St. Columba’s Feast Day)
Come and celebrate one of Gaelic Scotland and Ireland’s most revered saints Calum Cille (St. Columba). Highland Village will observe his feast day with traditional sweet breads in historic buildings and video taped footage of Cape Breton Gaelic speakers representing the seanchas tradition (oral culture). This rare footage includes the late storyteller Joe Neil MacNeil. All welcome. Admission is free. Tea provided. (Visitor Centre, 2:00 pm)
Friday, June 19 - Am Breacan Bòidheach Fasanta: Mary’s Bonny Plaid - Natural Dye Workshop
Using natural dyes to add colour to the cloth and yarns that pioneer women made was an important aspect of 19th century life. If you have ever wondered what materials were used to produce such a wide range of hues, please join us for an afternoon of wool dyeing. Participants will learn about various dyeing techniques and will be able to dip a few small skeins of their own. Pre-registration required. Workshop is open to all ages. Admission is $10. (2:00 - 3:30 pm)
