Mìos na Gàidhlig/Gaelic Cultural Awareness Month

Thursday, May 1 - Là Mór na Gàidhlig/Gaelic Day
Come join us as we celebrate the first day of Gaelic Awareness Month on Friday, May 1, with an afternoon Stòras a' Bhaile immersion céilidh. Storas a' Bhaile means the village treasure, alluding to community-based Gaelic culture.The céilidh will be held in the in the reception centre boardroom from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and includes Gaelic singing, storytelling, music and dancing in the Nova Scotia tradition. Free admission.

Saturday, May 16 - Òrain as t-Earrach (Songs in Spring) Gaelic Song Workshop
Highland Village presents an afternoon workshop of traditional songs and singing styles presented in the Visitor Centre. This session will be conducted by Jim Watson and include field recordings of Gaelic singers throughout Cape Breton Island. All with an interest in Gaelic singing are welcome. Admission is $10 and light refreshments will be served. (Reception Centre 1:00 - 4:00 PM.) Public school students & tradition bearers receive free admission. 13% HST included.
