Story
|
AURORA was towed out of the Annapolis Basin and began a course tacking out of the Bay of Fundy. She lost her position at night in heavy wind and fog and mistook the Western Point lighthouse on Brier Island as a vessel light. AURORA ran aground and was unable to wear off. The crew all escaped safely in a lifeboat and rowed to Westport on Brier Island. Much of the cargo was salvaged by locals and used to construct a number of local buildings including the local Oddfellows Hall.
