The mammals of this group are primarily flesh-eaters, but some, like the bear and raccoon, are omnivorous. Twelve species of carnivores are now present in Nova Scotia: Red Fox, Coyote, Bobcat, Lynx, Black Bear, Raccoon, Mink, Otter, Short-tailed Weasel, Pine Marten, Fisher, Striped Skunk. There is circumstantial evidence of the Eastern Cougar.
