The predominantly granite peninsula (Unit 852) is, for the most part, barren of trees because of its extreme exposure and impoverished soils. Very old sandstones (Unit 571) north of the Chedabucto Fault also support thin soils. The wind- and spray-influenced coastal forest extends to the Sedimentary Lowland (District 860) on the north side of Chedabucto Bay.
