Natural History of Nova Scotia was originally published in 1984 as a joint project of the Department of Lands and Forests (now the Department of Natural Resources) and the Nova Scotia Museum. The first edition was reprinted in 1989.

This revised edition was produced by the Nova Scotia Museum in partnership with Communications Nova Scotia and with the financial assistance of the Canada/Nova Scotia Cooperation Agreement on Sustainable Economic Development.
