 Fulvous Whistling-Duck Order ANSERIFORMES

Family Anatidae

Fulvous Whistling-Duck

Dendrocygna bicolor (Vieillot)

Status Two records. A bird of this species, identified from a wing sent to the Canadian Wildlife Service, was shot on Bon Portage Island on 15 January 1976. Two flocks, one of 14 and the other of about 25 individuals, appeared on Bon Portage Island during January and February of that year. Most, if not all, were shot by local gunners, and one specimen was presented to the Nova Scotia Museum.

Remarks Although these birds nest in the southwestern United States and in Latin America, they are prone to wander, and there are several records for southeastern Canada and the northeastern United States.
