Corn CrakeCrex crex (Linnaeus)Status One record. McKinlay (1899) reports on the province's only specimen (whereabouts now unknown), taken near Pictou "nearly a quarter century ago in the month of October." The mounted bird remained unidentified until it was examined by Frank M. Chapman, who visited Pictou in 1898. Remarks There are a number of early records of this Old World rail in eastern North America. There have been no occurrences since 1928, perhaps because it became much less abundant in Europe, especially in Britain. |
