Eurasian Curlew

Numenius arquata (Linnaeus)

Status One sight record. Shirley and Lise Cohrs reported seeing this large curlew at Cherry Hill Beach, Lunenburg County, on 6 May 1978.

Remarks The bird's large size (50-60 cm) and huge bill (based on comparison with a nearby Willet), white rump, uniformly marked head and two-syllable call were noted. There are only four confirmed North American records of this Old World species.
