Band-tailed Pigeon

Columba fasciata Say

Status Two records. A bird discovered on 23 September 1974 on Seal Island by Richard G.B. Brown, Ian MacGregor, Bruce MacTavish, and Stuart Tingley (who also photographed it) was seen subsequently by many others up to 19 October. The second bird, a female, was captured in a duck-banding trap set at the Shubenacadie Wildlife Park, Colchester County, on 1 December 1981 and remained captive until released the following June (E. Pace).

Remarks A few individuals of this far-western bird have been recorded elsewhere in eastern North America, generally in autumn. There is no reason to assume they are anything other than true vagrants.
