Vermilion FlycatcherPyrocephalus rubinus (Boddaert)Status Two sight records. Evelyn Richardson (1965) reported two apparent occurrences of this species: the first was a female sojourning aboard the fishing boat of Arthur Wickens off Seal Island on 25 May 1955 (Tufts 1955), and the second was a male feeding on tideline kelp flies on Bon Portage Island at the feet of Carroll Crowell on 29 May 1960. Remarks The only other Canadian records of this species are from southern Ontario, although it is a rare vagrant to the southeastern United States. The bright red and black male is particularly distinctive, and Mr. Crowell was able to rule out any confusion with the Scarlet Tanager. |
