Scissor-tailed Flycatcher

Tyrannus forficatus (Gmelin)

Status Five records. Evelyn Richardson (1965) reported a sighting by Morrill Richardson of one feeding on kelp flies on Bon Portage Island on a November day "around 1950." On 19 November 1978 the Sidney Smith family captured and photographed one on Cape Sable. In 1982, two were seen on 11 May at Seaforth, Halifax County, by Suzanne Carmilleri and on 4 September at Central Chebogue, Yarmouth County, by Charles R.K. and Blanche Allen. Remarks This beautiful flycatcher from the south-centrat United States has a reputation as a wanderer, perhaps because of its conspicuous appearance and habits.
