Green-tailed TowheePipilo chlorurus (Audubon)Status Three records. A specimen picked up dead near the lighthouse at Cape Sable on 14 May 1955 by Benjamin F. Smith was later acquired by the Nova Scotia Museum. Since then there have been two other records: a bird on Seal Island on 18 May 1974 found by Barbara Hinds and photographed by Bruce Mactavish, and another photographed by Davis Finch on Sable Island on 10-11 June of the same year. Remarks It is noteworthy that the three individuals of this vagrant from the southwestern United States have appeared in spring. When clearly seen, it is unmistakable, with its olive-green back, gray breast, white throat and rufous cap. |
