Golden-crowned SparrowZonotrichia atricapilla (Gmelin)Status Two records. An adult was closely observed by Christel and Norman Bell on Sable Island on 9 May 1967. Another adult was discovered and photographed by the Norman Bowers at Caledonia, Queens County, on 8 May 1977; it remained about their feeder for about a week, giving ample opportunity for many visitors to see it. Remarks This beautiful far-western sparrow, somewhat like a White-crowned Sparrow but with a black-margined yellow crown, has occurred about a half-dozen times in the northeastern United States. Our two records are the only Canadian records east of Ontario. |
