Black-cowled Oriole

Icterus dominicensis (Linnaeus)

Status One sight record. An oriole seen by Benjamin K. Doane on Seal Island on 24 May 1971 was believed to have been a male of this species (Doane 1971).

Remarks This species is resident in Mexico, Central America and the West Indies. From the plumage described by Doane (1971), the bird could have belonged to the migratory subspecies of the Bahamas. It is perhaps not merely coincidental that a Cuban Cave Swallow had appeared on Seal Island on the previous weekend.
