Cast-Making |
| |
|
| |
Once
the mold was complete, we were ready to make a cast. Most of
the casts were made out of some fancy material called "Modified
Gypsum". It consisted of four ingredients that were mixed together.
We added paint pigment to match the colours of the rocks that
the original trace fossils were preserved in. |

Then
the liquid material was poured into the mold. We added backings
so that the finished casts could easily be hung up on a wall.
The cast was allowed to dry overnight and then it was very gently
peeled from the mold. Any rough edges were smoothed off with
a sander. Any holes or boo-boo's were filled in with coloured
plaster. |
