Structures-Program-ImageGrade 3, 90 minutes
September – June

Built to fit your “Materials and Structures” unit. Students engage in activities that explore how shapes and the forces of compression, tension and gravity act on structures. The program allows children to put theory to the test by building their own structures in small groups, using “Zome” construction components.

Through the Structures program, students will:

  • Identify how shapes help provide strength, stability and balance.
  • Identify problems to be solved while creating structures.
  • Respond to the ideas of others while working in teams to complete a task.
  • Manipulate materials and identify ways to increase the strength, stability, and form of a personally-built structure.

This program supports curriculum outcomes for Grade 3 Science, Physical Science: Materials and Structures.
