Grades P - 1, 90 minutes September - June
The Train Time program introduces young children to the Museum as part of our community. Through play on our Kids’ Train, a tour of our galleries, and stories, children experience the Museum as a place that tells us about who we are, what we do, and how we make things.
Through the Train Time program, students will: - Describe some of the natural and constructed characteristics of their community
- Identify connections between their community and other communities
- Express opinions, ask questions, and listen to the ideas of others
- Regard reading and viewing as sources of interest, enjoyment, information
- Demonstrate an understanding that the way people live in their communities evolves over time.
- Explain how interactions between communities have changed over time.
This program supports curriculum outcomes for the following units: - Grade P Social Studies, Roots and Place
- Grade 1 Social Studies, Place and Time
Program timeline – Train Time - Arrival, bathrooms, hang up coats
- 5 minutes: Welcome and introduction
- 25 minutes: Story and play, at Kids’ Train
- 25 minutes: “Meet the Engines” tour in the Museum galleries
- 5 minutes: break
- 25 minutes: Train whistle craft; train signals game
- 5 minutes: Conclusion, and dismiss
