North Hills Museum Open House: Sunday, June 12th from 2 pm – 4 pm
In conjunction with ‘Heritage in Unusual Places’ weekend, North Hills Museum invites you to an open house. Visit the museum, preview our summer schedule for workshops and events, have a beverage, and sample our delicious home baked treats. A great social time for the whole family!

North Hills Museum Community Barbeque/Pot luck:
Wednesday, July 20th, 6 pm

You are invited to a pot luck celebration of the community and beyond. Bring a salad or dessert, we provide the rest. All are welcome to enjoy good food, good music, and the museum as well.

Vintage Automobile Show: Sunday, August 14th, 2 pm - 4 pm
Visit the museum site and enjoy viewing a wide selection of vintage automobiles dating from the 1930's to 1970's while chatting with the owners. Vote for your favorite auto!

North Hills Museum Roadshow: Sunday, September 18th, 10 am – 4 pm
Join Roger Crowther, Louis Leroux, and Rosemary Beckett for a day of antique appraising. Cost is $5 per item, maximum of 2 items per person. Pre-registration is required. 532-2168

Family Workshop Series
Experience the wonderful works of art at North Hills Museum and share unforgettable moments with your children as they discover their own creativity in the studio workshops. For budding artists 5 – 12 years of age accompanied by an adult. Cost per child: $5.00 for each workshop, includes museum visit and all materials. Advance registration required. 532-2168

“Look at Me” Self Portrait painting: Sunday July 10, 2011 1:00 – 4:00 pm
Discover the many mysteries behind the portraits at North Hills Museum. Learn about expression, costume, and lighting; then, in the studio, paint your own self portrait that tells your story.

“Busted” Sculpture workshop: Sunday August 7, 2011 1:00 – 4:00 pm
Find out the story behind different sculptures in the collection. Examine the various techniques that sculptors use to demonstrate expression and movement; then, create your own sculpture bust in “air dry” clay.

“Printmaker” Print making workshop, Sunday September 25, 2011 1:00 – 4:00 pm.
Learn the difference between an etching and a drawing, uncover methods of basic printmaking, and create your own series of prints.

North Hills Revisited: Family Workshop Exhibition: October 2nd – 8th at Arts Place in Annapolis Royal
The public is invited to attend a display of art works created by the young participants in the Family Workshop Series at North Hills Museum.
Opening reception October 2nd , from 1pm -3pm.

Birthday Workshops: Choose one of our workshop themes for an exciting and unique birthday party at the museum. Call for details 532-2168.

Salt Box Talks: Lecture Series
This program is designed for those who would like to discover and better appreciate North Hills Museum. Each session will include a guided tour on a selected theme within the collection, a power point presentation and refreshments. Each lecture is $3.00 per person. A great way to spend fall Tuesdays! Registration required, call 532-2168.

The Big Three: Tuesday September 13, 2011 10:00 am – 12:00 pm, or 1:30 – 3:30 pm.
Furniture design within the Georgian Period (1714 – 1830) was dominated by the talent of three men: Thomas Chippendale, George Hepplewhite and Thomas Sheraton. Mr. Patterson’s collection includes fine examples of the styles created by these gifted cabinetmakers. Join us as we examine the characteristics of these exquisite pieces of furniture.

The Grand Tour: Tuesday September 27, 2011 10:00 am – 12:00 pm, or 1:30 – 3:30 pm.
Young English elites of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries often travelled Europe in an effort to broaden their horizons and learn about language, architecture, geography, and culture. Discover the history of this form of travel and view some typical examples of “Grand Tour” souvenirs found in the collection at North Hills Museum.

The Royal Academy at North Hills: Tuesday October 11, 2011 10:00 am – 12:00 pm, or 1:30 – 3:30 pm.
Founded by King George III in 1768, the Royal Academy of the Arts raised the position of artists through education and opportunities to exhibit their work. During the Georgian Period (1714-1830), some of the most famous members included Sir Frances Chantrey, George Chinnery, Francis Cotes, John Hoppner and George Morland, all for you to discover at North Hills Museum.
