This plate shows the method of shoring up the mines with timbers which the French would have used at Port Morien. It is taken from Denis Diderot's Recueil des Planches, sur Les Sciences, Les Arts Libreaux, et Les Arts Mechaniques, Avec Leur Explication, published in Paris in 1752.
