Barrels in Nova Scotia were very important in the shipping and storing of goods particularly for the apple industry for many years. Both mills and cooperages worked hand and hand to meet the large demand needed by apple producers. At Ross Farm today hear the roar of the saws and the smell of the freshly cut spruce and balsam fir as the mill produces barrel staves and heads for our cooperage shop. At the cooperage shop you will see our cooper building the various types of barrels that are made at Ross Farm every year from the same staves and heads that are produced in our mill.
