Stopping at 43 museums and meeting hundreds of school children was professional adventurer Garry Sowerby's method of finding Nova Scotia's 25 funkiest things. The Funky Museum Roadshow, an exciting and educational event, saw Garry and his entourage touring the province in search of neat facts and unique items between June 4th - 12th, 1999.

Many funky things were brought to Garry's attention on his previous adventures, which include circumnavigating the world in the shortest time to grab a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records. Garry's favourite artifact is Red Cloud, the blue and white Halifax-built 1980 Volvo, which he and fellow Maritimer Ken Langley drove around the world 19 years ago. The latest mission for Garry and Red Cloud was leading a nine-day madcap tour around Nova Scotia, visiting as many of Nova Scotia's museums as possible, looking for the funky.

Did the "funky" title go to a codfish bikini, the hoot of an 8ft Alpine Horn, the sight of Garry in a kilt learning to do the highland fling, or a periwinkle table? Maybe it went be the funkiest-looking chicken or a four-seater outhouse! School children and museums were invited to share thoughts on Nova Scotia's funky stuff when Garry visited their community. When the roadshow wrapped-up at the Museum of Industry in Stellarton, Garry judged the funky findings and parked his adventure vehicles in the Automobile Adventures exhibit.

The Funky Museum Show looked at Nova Scotia's cultural and natural heritage in a fabulously funky way, and showcases museum events across the province on Museum Day Weekend, June 12th to 13th, and all season long. More than 60 museums took part in unusual events highlighting the wacky side of Nova Scotia's history. Event participants include community museums, Nova Scotia Museums, the Federation of Nova Scotian Heritage and Parks Canada.

The Funky Museum Roadshow was part of Tourism Awareness Month 1999.
