Is this gown for a wedding or a funeral? This black silk and satin gown was worn by a widow to her second marriage in 1902. In Victorian times, the mourning period was supposed to last a year and a half, with the widow wearing all black for the first portion of the year and gradually changing wardrobe colours to grey and lavender within the last six months of mourning.
