Once a vintage branch portion has been spliced and grafted to a tree, the area is protected, enforced and sealed with beeswax. The majority of grafting is done in the vintage orchard at Prescott House Museum in early April. Museum staff hope to restore the historic orchard over the years, but it is a long process as only 90% of grafts are successful.
