In Barrett's Privateers, Stan Rogers sings "I Wish I Was in Sherbrooke Now". That begs the question, what was he pining for? He was thinking of one of the hidden gems of Nova Scotia - a picturesque village on the Eastern Shore, nestled on the banks of the St. Mary's River (one of the finest salmon streams in the province), and, for many years, a prosperous gold mining and lumbering town.
