Note: This package is available for purchase to be used for any two-night usage between September 15 and October 15. Subject to availability and some programming changes.
The Seacoast Trail (Marine Drive) wends its way from Halifax to Cape Breton and offers motorists the opportunity to decompress by taking the road less traveled. It is also a scenic byway which invites the traveler to stop and enjoy the view or to commune with nature up close and unspoiled. The Halifax approach to the Seacoast Trail can be reached in under 15 hours from Boston, via The Cat Ferry from Portland, Maine to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. It is a voyage worth making at any time during the Cat’s sailing schedule.
The journey is particularly worthwhile as the colours start to change. As the summer ends and autumn begins, Nova Scotia’s Seacoast takes on a new aspect as the light begins to change. The air is clean and crisp, the coastal views are crystal clear, the stars shine brighter - all as nature begins to unveil her most glorious colours. Autumn in Nova Scotia has been aptly described as “Nature’s Masterpiece”. Spectacular though it is, the scenery of Nova Scotia’s Seacoast Trail has to share the billing with the people and the experiences that abound on this friendliest of shores. From fresh-to-the-table seafood to cultural and heritage happenings, to nature up close and unspoiled, the Seacoast Trail invites the visitor to partake of its bounty.
A two-night, three-day Seacoast Trail vacation experience tailored to people who are planning to attend the Celtic Colours International Festival, or visit Nova Scotia for the fall colours. This prize package is intended to be redeemed on Wednesday, October 3 and Thursday, October 4, 2007. Other dates may be possible depending on availability. This package is also available for purchase between September 15 and October 15, 2007 with some programming changes due to concert and other schedules.
Day One - After arriving in Halifax, head out highways 107 and 7 towards Musquodoboit Harbour. If time permits, a short detour will take you to Martinique Beach Provincial Park - Nova Scotia's longest beach. Continue on to your first night’s accommodation provided by the Salmon River House Country Inn and Lobster Shack Restaurant, just 45 minutes from Halifax. Enjoy the romance of the sea at your doorstep and be treated to dinner for two in their award-winning dining room.
Day Two - After a continental breakfast at Salmon River House you will embark on a leisurely journey along the scenic Seacoast Trail to Liscombe Lodge, the “Nature Lovers Resort”. After a scrumptious lunch in the dining room overlooking the Liscomb River, you may want to hike one of the nature trials that surround the Lodge, or perhaps take a short, guided river cruise on a pontoon boat. You will journey to Sherbrooke for your evening dinner at the Sherbrooke Village Inn, where seafood is a specialty.
After dinner you will be treated to the stirring sounds of Celtic and traditional music as you attend the annual “Road To Celtic Colours Ceilidh”.
Day Three - After a hearty breakfast at Liscombe Lodge, return to Sherbrooke Village for a tour of Nova Scotia’s largest living history museum. Depending on the time of your visit you may be able to take part in heritage activities such as butter making, quilting or rug hooking. Plan to spend at least a half day at Sherbrooke Village, although you could easily spend the full day.
From there you may wish to continue to Cape Breton for the world-renowned Celtic Colours International Festival, or feel free to spend more time exploring Guysborough County and the Marine Drive.
