Barrington, Nova Scotia - Lighthouse Route

From 1882 until well into the 1900s, this mill provided yarn and woolen cloth for local families. Discover how the mill’s technology saved Nova Scotian women countless hours of work processing wool they needed to clothe their families. Imagine the rhythms of the spinner, twister, skeiner and loom powered by the river's rushing water, as costumed interpreters share stories about the lives of workers.

Only 10 minutes from Highway 103, this woolen mill will certainly appeal to visitors interested in early Nova Scotia industry, water as a power source, assembly line processing, women in the workplace, rural community lifestyle, rural trade and industrial machinery.

See the first Nova Scotia tartan, part of a piper's costume in an appliqué created by Bessie Murray in 1953.
