Jeddore Oyster Pond, Nova Scotia -
Marine Drive |
Welcome to this cosy fisherman's house, complete with an old wood cookstove, hooked mats on the floor, and a pump organ in the parlour. Experience the life of a coastal fishing family, typical of Nova Scotia in the early 1900s. Explore the barn, fish house and museum grounds, nestled between Jeddore Harbour and a spruce forest. Costumed interpreters share stories of family life, of making a living from the land and the sea, and of traditions that continue today along Nova Scotia's Eastern Shore. Depending on the day, you may see eel pot-making demonstrations, try your hand at creating a rag mat, or sample a traditional recipe of rhubarb crisp or vegetable hodge-podge.
This site is a must-see for visitors interested in typical, rural Nova Scotian lifestyles, traditional crafts, fishing, and the important roles of women in the family.
